LinkedIn headshot framing (not just 400×400)

The spec is a square; the UI is a circle. Compose for what people actually see.

LinkedIn asks for a square upload but renders profile photos as a circle. Corners disappear — hair, shoulders, and wide grins get clipped if you compose for a rectangle.

Compose inside a circle mentally

  • Leave headroom above the hairline — the top arc cuts tight.
  • Keep shoulders centred; do not push the face to a corner.
  • Avoid text or logos near edges; they will not survive the mask.

Export at least 400 × 400 px

Smaller sources look soft on retina displays. Export square at 400 px or higher, then resize JPG if your camera file is huge. Compress if the file feels sluggish on mobile upload.

Banner art is a different slot (1584 × 396) — do not reuse the headshot file stretched wide.
